Irish Christmas Fair in Coalisland
Posted By Lilac Sat 26th November 2011

Cairde Uí Néill and LILAC Charity Shop are coming together on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd of December to offer a bilingual shopping experience in Coalisland. Both organisations are working together to kick off the festive season in the newly situated Charity Shop in the Old Bank House. It is hoped that this will afford the local community the opportunity to use as much, or as little Irish in the shop as they wish.

Gearóid Mac Eoin, who works as the Irish Language Development Officer for Coalisland and Clonoe areas states that,

"Coalisland boasts one of the largest Irish medium primary schools in the north of Ireland outside of Belfast, it is important for those who are being educated through the medium of Irish to see that Irish is a language which can be used in a social context. There are many in the area learning the language, or simply refreshing their Irish and this is an excellent opportunity for them to put their skills into practice. A good method in developing your language skills is to incorporate it into normal daily activities."

Thursday evening will see this successful charity shop selling goods and entertaining shoppers with tasty traditional Christmas food spiced with Irish. This partnership with Cairde Uí Néill and LILAC continues on Friday evening when a Christmas Fair will commence from 6.00pm – 9.00pm. The Irish themed Christmas Fair will provide family fun activities, including; festive Face Painting, Arts & Crafts workshops, as well as a Stilt Walking Christmas Fairy. No Christmas celebration would be complete without Daidí na Nollag (Santa Claus) who will hand out gifts to all the boys and girls present.

If you are coming to the switching on of the Christmas lights at the Corn Mill, please call in with us and say Dia duit!

Posted By Lilac Thurs 11th June 2009

Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie today announced a funding boost of £22,845.00 for Coalisland’s Lilac Centre to support cancer patients and their families.

The LILAC centre offers help and support using complimentary therapies and the funding will be used to provide new equipment for complimentary therapies including aromatherapy and reflexology.

Making the announcement the Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie said: “I am pleased to support this project for residents in Coalisland who are encountering difficult circumstances. Poor health is one of the most important and difficult issues that the Neighbourhood Renewal process must address.

"The implementation of this project, through the Armagh and Dungannon Health Action Zone, demonstrates my commitment to work in partnership with others to achieve improvements in the health and well being of people living in the Coalisland Neighbourhood Renewal Area.”

Through Neighbourhood Renewal a project has been devised to enhance the service being provided and to carry out a review of the effectiveness of complimentary type therapies.

The Minister also acknowledged the work of the Coalisland Neighbourhood Partnership: She said: “I wish to express my appreciation of the efforts of members of Coalisland Neighbourhood Partnership who, in a relatively short period of time, have made considerable progress on delivering a range of significant projects in their Neighbourhood Renewal Area. The support of the Partnership is necessary to achieve effective change and I look forward to further developments in Coalisland”

The involvement of the Armagh and Dungannon Health Action Zone gives the project a total value of £28,245.00.
