Financial Help
People affected by cancer often spend more because of their illness. Also their ability to earn is affected. Your employer will be able to provide advice on what occupational sickness benefits they offer and how long you can be off work.
There are other sources of benefits some of which are listed below:
Charity Grants
Macmillan Cancer Relief sometimes provides grants to people who have cancer and are experiencing financial difficulties. Sargent Cancer Care sometimes give financial help to parents of children with cancer. The Independent Living Fund (ILF) helps cancer patients with the costs of living at home. More information can be obtained from the social services department.
State Benefits
If your income has been affected by cancer or if you are finding it difficult to copy financially, you may be entitled to the following state benefits:

- • Attendance Allowance
- • Invalid Care Allowance
- • Disabled Person’s Tax Credit
- • Help from the Social Fund
You may also be entitled to help with prescription costs, travel to hospitals and wigs.
